Welcome to hcs extended care
HCS offers an Extended Care program before and after school to foster each child’s spiritual, cognitive, social-emotional and physical development through opportunities and experiences which focus on achievement, relationships and belonging. As a school committed to positive student development, this program supports your child’s academic success and promotes healthy spiritual, physical, emotional and social development.
At HCS, we extend student learning beyond the school day by offering a wide variety of extra-curricular enrichment and development activities. We have dedicated, trained, and experienced staff who oversee homework and facilitate creative and fun activities. It provides students with structured time for finishing school work and ample time to socialize, read, play games and enjoy team challenges. Students participate in activities that emphasize academic enrichment, character development, and hands-on learning of valuable life skills, including cooperation, flexibility and mutual respect.
Robust outdoor free play and structured games help students learn sportsmanship and develop their physical strength and endurance. Students learn critical thinking and problem solving by participating in board games and team building activities. Social and emotional growth is nurtured through teacher led activities that promote a feeling of community and belonging. Students learn through open-ended activities that give them a chance to apply problem solving skills and collaborate with friends.
In addition, enrichment classes may be offered for students in Kindergarten thru 8th grades. The optional, fee based activities are intended to provide students with opportunities to experience and explore interest in a fun and less structured environment, and are not graded or counted for academic credit. Classes that have been offered in the past were the chess club and ballet class. There are plans of offering other classes like drama, sports and arts.
This program provides parents the added convenience to meet their busy schedule. Families have bustling schedules and need flexibility, and we offer options to accommodate our community needs. It is available for Kindergarten through 8th grade students on an academic year, monthly or day by day basis. This is a separate service of the school, and it is from 7:30 am to 9:00 am and 2:20 pm to 5:30 pm during regular school days (1:20 pm - 5:30 pm on Fridays). Extended Care is also open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on certain holidays and during quarter breaks, please check the school calendar for these dates.
