Karina Van Maanen is a loving, kind, patient and nutrition teacher. Teaching young children has been her calling since she was 15 years old. She started out teaching Sunday School at her church and volunteering for Vacation Bible School. She knows that the Lord gave her this calling to bring the love of God to children and that this would be her ministry. This drive and purpose brought her to Highlands Christian School.
Karina graduated from San Francisco State University with a BA in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject teaching credential. Direct from college she joined our HCS family. She has been teaching kindergarten at HCS for 12 years. She loves engaging her students using a variety of learning methods. She uses visuals, stories, movement and her favorite hands-on activities, especially science experiments! She feels blessed being able to teach her student about Jesus' love for them.
On her off hours, Karina loves to cook, bake and watch movies. She is a true foodie and film buff! She's willing to try anything once and she loves her classic films. His Girl Friday and Arsenic and Lace are among her favorites! She makes some tasty pies, especially an Earl Grey Cream Pie that is extra special! She also love to share those baked goodies with her students.
Karina's first love is Jesus and that love is reflected in her teaching and the care she has for all her students.
